Musigati, june20th 2016, Burundi officially launched the first passage in
2016 of the Health Week for Mother and
Child at SDS Musigati in Bubanza province, under the patronage of Her
Excellency Denise Bucumi Nkurunziza, the First Lady of the Republic of Burundi.
This edition of the Health Week for Mother and Child will provide Vitamin A
supplementation for children from 6 to 59 months; Albendazole to disinfect the
childrenabout 1 to 14 years and pregnant women in the 2nd and 3rd trimester of
pregnancy and praziquantel to disinfect the children from 5 to 14 years, and
catch-up vaccination for the second dose of measles vaccine and the 4th dose of
the combined vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTP) in
children aged 18 to 23 years.
"Our gratitude is addressed to all the Burundi Government that
continues to demonstrate the importance of health of the population in general
and health of women and children in particular," said the WHO
Representative on the behalf of United Nations Agencies working in Burundi.
After the official launch, the First
Lady of the Republic of Burundi has given to the population some hygena advices
such as washing hands before eating and breast-feeding.
H.E Denise Nkurunziza also invited all concerned to this Health Weeek for
Mother and Child to take care of this opportunity and asked all the officials
to be aware that all beneficiaries have got the appropriate medecines.
Some members of the parliament and senate, Minister of Public Health; the Governor
of Bubanza and the WHO Representative took part in this event.
