BURUNDI COMMEMORATED THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CONTRACEPTION



 
Friday, September 30, 2016, Burundi celebrated the International Day of contraception in Kayanza province, under the patronage of Her Excellency Denise Nkurunziza, the First Lady of Burundi. The ceremonies were held in “Le Paradis” Hotel under the theme: "Family Planning is consent of the couple: the active participation of men."
Besides the high personalities including the Minister of Health and Member of Parliament, more than 200 men leaders participated in these ceremonies.
Madam Representative of UNFPA in Burundi welcomed many health initiatives of the government to its people. She also promised that her organization will continue to support all endeavors of the government, especially in the health field.
In her speech, the First Lady stated that thechildren before were considered as an asset. However, overcrowding can cause insecurity. She added that the above theme was chosen to sensitize men on their responsibility in family planning. "Overcrowding is an impediment to development that is why the Head of State recommended the population to give birth to necessary children."
The ceremonies were concluded by discussion on reproductive health. In this interview, several men have promised to share in family planning
